After saying goodbye to my delSol I begun working on my new project, my AP1. A V-AFC and an A/F meter where my base mods to start tuning. I wanted to keep the cockpit clean so I decided to sacrifice my cup holder to mount the setup. Some custom black paint and bam! A clean OE look.
The I/E mods where comprised of a K&N OE replacement filter, Spoon air duct, a T1R single exhaust with Ti tip and a T1R test pipe. The inside of the stock air box was modded to seal of the silencing chamber and create more positive pressure
For the 2001 Daytona Tuner Bash, a set of Mugen MF-10s and some RJS racing harnesses finished off the mods. During the 4cyl NA Dyno challenge I took 1st place with a whopping 212hp at the wheels.. NO ECU, just I/H/E and V-AFC tuning thanks to Stephen at Pacific Performance.
The MF10's in their 8.5" withd and 245 tires where not cutting it for me, so they were replaced with Volk CE28s that allowed a 9" rear and a 255 to be utilized. The head was redone for better flow. Darin Hutchison from Pacific took a personal interest in my project and did an amazing port and polish on my AP1 head. That along with a Spoon thin head gasket, REV flatbottom valves, REV titanium retainers and TODA valve springs ensured 228hp on the dyno.
For Import Xpressions a Cusco Floor Bar, Cusco rear sub frame brace and a Spoon X-brace stiffened the chassis and helped me take 1st place in the at that time
very new JDM Tuning class.
After placing at the show I was asked by the now extinct C16 Magazine to shoot my car. The shoots appeared in my feature and some shots where also used for a Nation Wide Ractive ad campaign.
Of course all the HP and suspension mods could not go to waste, so off to the track I went. AutoX has always been my vice of choice when it comes to auto racing and of course the S2000 felt at home in the turns.
In the search for more girth and more rubber, the CE28s where traded for BBS LMs giving me a nice 9.5" width and a meaty 265 in the rear.
Speedshops.net approached me for a shoot and a new friendship was made when Ron Hughes shot the car. He now has owned 2 S2000s and to this day tells me that shooting my car is what made him buy his 1st S2000.
Once again all things that begin must end. A spun bearing did enough damage that I had to replace the entire motor. I let the guys a Rick Case Honda handle the replacement and when I went to pick up my car I fell in love with a 2004 Berlina Black S2000 in the showroom. And so I traded my 2001 in and drove away in another S2000...
