| Home boy... | Changing your oil with a synthetic oil have no harmful effects no matter when you do it. The only reason I think! it is a bad idea is because it is not necessary for your car. The only vehicles that should use synthetic are vehicles with high performance engines or cars that come with it from the factory. An 15 year old family sedan would get little if any benefits from the more pricey oil.

| tTECH newbie | For a low mileage or new car switching to synthetic oil is the best thing you can do or your engine. However, this is not necessarily true for an older car. Synthetic oil "clings" to the moving parts better than normal oil. It also forms a thinner oil layer over the protected parts. This means that if there is wear in the engine, such as the rings or bearings, synthetic oil is more likely to get past the seals. The result can be burning oil or reduced oil pressure. It is not recommended to switch to synthetic unless there is low mileage on the engine. | ||

| tTECH newbie | It should have little to no effect on your vehicle. As you typed kms I am assuming you're from Canada and that being said your vehicle experiences cold weather. Synthetic oil is much thinner than conventional oil which will help tremendously with those cold start ups. Not to mention if you're like most you don't always get your service done on time. | ||
