Heel-and-toe is a driving technique used in performance driving, although a lot of people (including me) use it on the road in everyday conditions in the interest of effectiveness.

It basically operating the throttle and brake pedals simultaneously with the right foot, while using the clutch with the left foot. It is used when braking and downshifting are needed at the same time (prior to entering a turn). It allows the driver to "blip" the throttle to raise the RPMs to smoothly engage the lower gear while braking.

STEP-BY-STEP:

When coming up to the corner accelerate on the straight

Start braking in a straight line

Press the clutch while braking and select your exit gear

Using your HEEL tap or blip the gas pedal to raise the RPMs

Release the brake and clutch, accelerate through the exit

Accelrate harder through the exit

Done! Heel-Toe shifting!

It takes some practice to figure out just how much you have to blip the throttle to rev match the appropriate RPM's. Practice rev matching while downshifting until you have a good feel for this until you try it in actual corners using the brake. It takes a bit of practice but improves times through the corner.

Very good thread.. never seen anyone on any site posting this kind of information. I learned it as i made my race licence in 2001. It is tricky at first, but as you get a feel for it it all comes natural.
