Here are some easy steps on how to replace your power steering pump:
Things Required:
* New pump (of course

)
* Fluids (duh!! )
* Screwdrivers (very handy)
* Clean rag
Procedures:
* Before you start, allow the engine to cool down and spray some penetrating lubricant on nuts, bolts or on the hose connections. Make sure that all the connections are tight to proper torque settings, because the power steering pump should be at a high pressure.
Removing the old pump
* If your vehicle needs support, then raise it on jack stands and support it with jacks. When you raise the vehicle, make sure that you place a safety stand beneath the raised part of the vehicle.
* Start removing all the parts that you think might come in the way of you pulling out the power steering pump or the hoses. If you are working close to the battery, always remember to remove the negative cables. From the reservoir, start draining out the power steering fluid.
* Now, loosen the feed and return lines that are near the pump. If you want to replace only the hoses and not the pump, then you must disconnect the other side of the hose. Start loosening the power steering pumps bolts and take out the pump from your vehicle. Drain the old pump completely and keep in the empty box of the new pump.
Replacing the power steering pump
* The first step in replacing the power steering pump is checking if the new pump needs the pulley. If it does then you can use the pulley from the old pump itself. Before you replace it, make sure that you replace the hoses back on your vehicle.
* Make sure that you place the new pump in the proper position. Now, install the mounting bolts on the pump and torque them according to the specifications. If your car has a V-belt model, then you must not torque the bolts. Return the hoses to the pump and attach or tighten feed to its place.
* The next step in replacing power steering pump will be to install the belts that you have removed earlier and adjust the tension of the belt. Tighten the V-belt mounting bolts once you have adjusted the tension. Start reinstalling all the other parts, which you had removed during the removal of the old pump.
* Now the last step in replacing the power steering pump will be to fill the new pump with power steering fluid.
* You are done; start your vehicle and check if there are any leaks in your vehicle, if there is no leak in the pump then place the lid on the reservoir. Connect the negative cable to the battery. You will have to bleed the system out to get the air out of it.
Tips and Warnings:
* Depending on the type of vehicle you have, you can use a siphon pump to remove the reservoir out or to disconnect the feed and drain it on a draining pan.
* Always remember that while replacing the power steering pump, you must loosen the feeds before you remove the pump.
* Make sure that you double-check the hoses, because some might have a connection with the engine bay and you might remove more hoses than required.
* In some vehicles, you can loosen the bolts with a socket in the holes of the pump pulley.
* Keep in mind that while replacing the power steering pump you will have to check all the connection of the fluid system twice to ensure there are no leaks.
