Default 240sx front wheel bearing problem

When ever i hit my brakes my car starts to turn left. If i let go of the wheel and hit the brakes pretty hard the wheel turns 15%. My mechanic told me its the bearings, and i wanna know if that what it is. He told me $80 per wheel.

So is it really the bearings in the wheels that messed up? If i were to replace the bearings myself, how hard would it be?

thanks

That would be more to do with alignment and possible brake wear. not bearing from my knowledge

If are not sure if your wheel bearings are shot you can always test them yourself by jacking the car (put some pressure to the front end) and grab the top and bottom of the wheel and push in and out. If there is play in the wheel then the bearings need replacing. You can replace the whole hub or press out the bearing from the hub and press in a new one. You need to remove the hub either way so you'll need a hub puller, 80mm (i think) socket, breaker bar, hydraulic press is best to do the bearing swap.

I was told by my friend driving beside me, that the wheel wobbles when i apply the brakes, he also told me the steering rod needed replacing.

If your wheel is wobbling noticeably whatever is wrong should be obvious, wheel bearings will make a low pitch groaning noise and it gets louder the faster you go, a seized caliper could cause your car to pull a certain direction when applying brakes, and a wheel wobbling could be a tie rod end that's extremely worn or a control arm bushing that's broken, or someone left your wheel loose.

By the way 240's don't have steering rods, they have rack and pinions that have inner and outer tie rods at each end, for future reference.

As stated jack up your car and find what's loose from what you said it should be obvious. Or at least hope so to have a wheel wobble. hope this help you man!
